This year, I want it to be a year of prayer. So often, I find myself telling people I will pray for them, but I don't spend time IN prayer for them. Let me share with you a few of the differences I see in those two statements.
1 Thess 5:16-19 tell us to pray continuously, giving thanks in all circumstances because it is the will of Christ Jesus. That word 'continuously' jumps out at me. This year, i want to do more than just mention someone's name in my prayer, I want to lift them up continuously and thank the Lord for them and what He is doing in their lives.
Philippians 4 tells us not to worry, but instead pray, give thanks, and receive the peace of Jesus. This again is a practice, a discipline if you will, that I need to perfect and practice in my prayer life. Instead of worrying about life, pray and find peace--a peace that surpasses all human understanding, but a spiritual peace in know that God is in control.
Will you join me in making 2014 a year of prayer?
