Have you ever had a year where you just want it to be over? Where you are just sure that the next year has to be better?
That is where I found myself last July. And, now, here in December, I still feel the same way but I have a different perspective on the entire journey. Last July, the IRS decided that DKM could not write off any travel or business expenses and back audited for the entire business start up. I felt persecuted by some of the auditor's comments around ministry and Christians. I was shocked at how in trying to defend the business, she thought I was defending the money, when in actuality, I was trying to defend my work and love for God and His kingdom. Finally, in the end of November, my accountant and I saw the final tally of $22,000 owed for the three years and I was deflated. I don't have $22,000. I don't have a thriving business that can even turn a profit. I have a passion for speaking and a passion for sharing what God is doing in my life and in the lives of women and families around me.
I titled this blog, "Advent". It means 'coming'. This Christmas, December 2014, I am coming to the king as a low, humble servant. As we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus, I'm reminded of the story of Jonah. He tried to run from God and from his calling, but not even in the belly of a fish at the bottom of the ocean kept God from finding him. We cannot run from our calling or rush into a new year without obeying the one who has called us to the life we are living. We can 'come' to Jesus and follow him all the way from the manger, into the new year, knowing that he loves us and cares for us and will save us!
